How to create a plant corner (without it getting messy)
Want to create a plant corner without it looking cluttered? With layers, repetition, and the right pots, you can instantly create a calm, green space.
A plant corner is one of the easiest ways to make your interior warmer and more peaceful. The secret? Not "more plants," but a clever composition with height, repetition, and plenty of air around it.

1) First choose the location (light + tranquility)
Start with a spot where your plant thrives and where the space feels natural. Think of an empty corner next to the sofa, a spot by the window, or next to a cabinet where there's still some "air."
- Avoid a place directly next to a radiator (dry air).
- Is the corner near a window? Then you can choose from more varieties.
- Is the corner a bit dark? Then choose strong, easy-care plants.
2) Work with 3 heights (low – middle – high)
A calming plant corner is created through layering. This makes it seem like a conscious styling choice, rather than just individual pots on the floor.
- Tall: A statement plant on the floor (think a big, full plant).
- Middle: a plant on a stool, plant stand or side table.
- Low: a compact plant or a hanging/drooping accent.
For a nice base, you can start with a larger plant from our collection of large houseplants and supplement it with 1-2 smaller varieties from small houseplants .
3) Keep it easy with repetition
The biggest styling mistake is making everything "different": different pots, different colors, different heights. Instead, choose repetition:
- 2–3 pots in the same color shade (e.g. sand, terracotta, white or green)
- 1 accent (e.g. a basket or one pot with structure)
- plants with the same "feeling" (calm green instead of everything mixed together)
Want that peaceful base right away? Then browse our plant pots or add some extra warmth with a houseplant in a pot or basket .
4) Grouping: 3 is a magic number
A set of three plants almost always looks good: one larger, one medium-sized, one smaller, or hanging. This way, you create a corner that feels "finished" without feeling crowded.
5) The finishing touch: leave space
The plant corner actually becomes more beautiful because of what you don't fill. Leave 10-20% "air" between the pots and around the corner. This creates a sense of calm and luxury.
